Redefin'd Photo Story
The Ongoing Redefin'd Story
I believe in the Redefin'd Program for unemployable youth and in the Leadership of Liz Duerholt.
According to Liz Duerholt, Executive Director of Redefin’d, it’s all about the redefinition of our stories and expectations, and creating sustainable change in our lives. Liz’s work with Redefin’d has shown her just how powerful building a connected community can be for all of us.
The first photo story I created was in Dec 2017, when the group was creating a private Christmas dinner to be held at the Bowness Community Centre, and when they got there, they were surprised by builders and supporters of the program, that Redefin'd had been given access to continue their program in the Bowness Community Commercial Kitchen. It was a grand surprise for the Redefin'd Krew, and it was an honour to be in on the secret, and to be there to tell their story.
The program flourished at the Bowness Community centre, where the Redefin'd Krew cooked lunches for dine-in or take-out, donating left-over food to the Bowness Nursing home and to the Little Free Pantry in Bowness. The next photo story tells of one of those productive days in 2019.
Since the pandemic, the program has been creating take-out options, and then had to pause during the time of restrictions.
Now, the program is taking on a new direction, as Redefin'd 2.0 proposes to have a live-in, self-sustaining program in rural Alberta near Calgary. Stay tuned for the soon to be published story from Heart and Soil Magazine, Summer Edition 2021.
